AMR East Region Communications is offering paid training to become a Call Taker
What is a Call Taker?
A Call-Taker is an emergency medical professional who is responsible for receiving, recording, and managing requests for ambulance assistance. The Call Taker will field calls for the transport of medically ill and traumatically injured patients in emergency and non-emergency situations. The Call Taker must quickly and accurately collect all necessary information to deploy appropriate emergency resources.
About the Program:
Eligible candidates will be hired on as a full-time employee and compensated for all completed training time. Candidates will complete a training period that includes classroom-based training, scenario-based skill development and one on one training designed to prepare them for work in the East Region Communications Center. The Communications Academy provides the internationally recognized Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) training and certification, CPR certification, and training on all necessary non-emergency intake skills and standards.
What happens after completing the Academy?
After successful completion of the Communications Academy, the employee will have earned the Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification and be prepared to take on the responsibilities of a Call Taker in a high-volume, fast-paced communications center. Employees will continue on-the-job training to service the multiple coverage areas.

The AMR East Region Communications Center is one of the largest private EMD Communications Center in the country. Call volume includes interfacility requests from hospitals and nursing homes as well as emergency requests from private callers and 911 contracts. We act as a secondary public safety answering point to various 911 agencies. Employees are frequently required to triage medical calls and provide pre-arrival instructions to callers when applicable.
