Summary: AMR is offering a unique opportunity for individuals interested in a rewarding career in pre-hospital medicine.

What is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)?

The primary focus of the EMT is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation, and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. An EMT performs interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance and is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

About the Program:

The eligible candidate will be hired as a full-time employee and compensated a training wage while in attendance. The Academy is a rigorous ten-week program which qualifies the employee to take the National Registry of EMT exam which then allows the employee to apply for a CT state EMT-B license. There is no cost for the class and all books, tuition, fees and uniforms will be paid by AMR.  Upon successful completion of the class, all tests and state licensure, the employee will be transferred to an EMT position with an increase to the EMT compensation rate.

The right candidates must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have proof of a HS diploma or GED
  • Have all required immunizations
  • Successfully complete the pre-employment screening which includes motor vehicle and criminal background checks, drug testing and a physical agility test
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license

What happens after passing the course?

After successful completion of the course, the employee will be eligible to take a written and skills test through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). Once certified by the NREMT, the employee will then submit the required documentation to the state to obtain their Connecticut EMT-B license.

Upon receipt of the state EMT-B license, employees will choose their part-time shift and complete new employee training. They will also qualify for benefits including:

  • Opportunities for professional growth
  • Response to nationwide disasters
  • Opportunity to bid for full-time shifts

This AMR sponsored Academy begins June 14, 2021!
